The Mitchell Report was released today by Major League Baseball, offering up a list of players who have used steroids at some point in their career. The report by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, who was hired by commissioner Bud Selig to examine the Steroids Era, faulted both players and management for the problem, saying the problems didn't develop overnight and there was plenty of blame to go around, according to ESPN.com.
There are some no-doubters on this list, but also some shockers (ie: the Triple-A Ottawa Lynx beloved F.P. Santangelo? Say it ain't so!). From a fans perspective, the MLB is in deep trouble. But, it's hard to say that MLB is unravelling from a financial standpoint (the only standpoint that matters, apparently), especially after racking up nearly $6 billion in revenue and setting overall attendance records in '07. However, when more reports surface and more players get indicted, who knows what will happen to the game of baseball in America.
According to TSN.ca, the Report details how the players, as well as clubhouse personnel, allowed steroids and other banned substances in clubhouses, or knew about it and stayed silent. While most of the investigation is based around former New York Mets clubhouse attendant and bat boy Kirk Radomski, as well as Brian McNamee, a former trainer for the Yankees and Clemens, I'm sure more clubhouse attendants around the league will be interviewed.
There has been a lot of action around the league lately, with a bunch of players (Tejada, Gagne, Lo Duca, etc.) signing big money contracts. How do their new teams feel about their new 'franchise' player who may or may not have been juicing at some point in their MLB careers?
